Henderson, Joe -quartet-
Live Under The Sky, Tokyo, 1994
Joe Henderson Quartet live from the Den-en Coliseum and Yomiuriland, Tokyo August 1994. Joe Henderson (1937-2001) was without question one of the key modern jazz saxophonists during the music's 1960s heyday. He was also a survivor who managed to keep working at the music he loved. The concert captured here represents the period of Joe's third and final flowering. In the 1990s he was signed to Verve/Polygram records making five albums as leader. The Quartet that Henderson assembled for Japan included his long-time associate and Miles Davis veteran Al Foster on drums, George Mraz on bass and the exceptionally talented newcomer South African, Bheki Mseleku on piano. There is a limited amount of Mseleku on disc and this concert is an important addition. Performed at Live Under The Sky, August 1994, at the Den-en Coliseum and Yomiuriland in Tokyo for broadcast by NHK radio. TRACKS: 1. Stella By Starlight 2. Beatrice 3. Recorda Me 4. B-Flat Waltz 5.
