Hancock, Herbie -& The Headhunters-
Live 1973
After Mwandishi, his early '70s experimental sextet, met with critical and commercial indifference, Herbie Hancock turned his gaze to Sly and the Family Stone and James Brown. The result was Headhunters, a new and tighter fusion of jazz and funk. Great tunes, high-precision grooves and vein melting solos. This appearance captures Herbie, Bennie Maupin and Anthony Jackson in full flight just after the release of their debut album, replacement drummer Mike Clark fitting in perfectly. Performed live at Fairfield Theater, East Lansing, MI in 28th 1973 for broadcast on National Public Radio. TRACKS: 1. Intro/Sly 2. Watermelon Man/Band Intro 3. Shiftless Shuffle 4. Chameleon 5. The Spook Who Sits By The Door
