Incredible Bongo Band
The Riot/ohkey Dokey (part 2)
Formed by MGM A&R man Michael Viner in 1972 to supplement the soundtrack to the virtually anonymous B film "The Thing With Two Heads", The Incredible Bongo Band went from loose studio collective to an instrumental pop covers consortium, interpreting classics of the day in their own inimitable percussive fashion. Their version of Apache has been sampled by the likes of Missy Elliot, Coldcut, Will Smith, Goldie, Jurassic 5, Moby, Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, Beastie Boys and Massive Attack and many many more. This 7" features two Incredible Bongo Band cuts not previously on any albums. The Riot was written by Perry Botkin Junior for the soundtrack to the 1970 film R.P.M and has been championed by the likes of the Chemical Brothers. Ohkey Dokey (Part 2) is a previously hard to find B-side to Ohkey Dokey (Part 1). "Incredible Bongo Band's 'Apache' is hip hop's national anthem". ~Hip Hop Connection. "The Incredible Bongo Band is like a pearl: hard to find and of everlasting beauty". ~Amazon. "A foundation upon which modern dance music has been created. The birth of Hip Hop". ~Boomkat.com. "Godfathers of hip-hop". ~Allmusic.com.
