Fluid
Clear Black Paper
The Fluid, a Denver-based band from the late '80s and early '90s, were a pivotal but underappreciated force in underground rock. Fusing hardcore, Detroit protopunk, garage rock, and '70s rock swagger, they drew comparisons to MC5 and the Rolling Stones, energized by the raw edge of Sex Pistols and Black Flag. Known for their ferocious live performances, they shared stages with legends like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Dinosaur Jr. As the first non-Seattle band signed to Sub Pop, The Fluid released four albums and several EPs, including the seminal Clear Black Paper and a split 7" with Nirvana. Despite their talent and thunderous stage presence, the band remained a cult favorite, overshadowed by Seattle's grunge explosion and the mainstream music industry's shifts. Now, Sub Pop has reissued The Fluid's indie catalog, including 'Punch N Judy,' 'Roadmouth,' and the 'Glue' EP, remastered and remixed by Jack Endino and JJ Golden to highlight the band's feral, exuberant approach to rock. With these reissues, The Fluid's legacy is poised for rediscovery, proving they were an essential voice in the era's punk-rock-metal fusion. Released on yellow vinyl.
