Dubkasm
Transform I (2lp)
Dubkasm's debut album 'Transform I' makes its return! Originally released in 2009 on the duo's Sufferah's Choice imprint. Recorded between England and Brazil, 'Transform I' is one of the essential parts in Dubkasm's discography, if not the release that cemented Digistep and Stryda's place in the reggae music scene. UK dub collides with traditional Brazilian instrumentation: Berimbau, zabumba and cuica melodies flow in symbiosis with deep reggae bass drums. Samba and nyabinghi rhythms intertwine with conscious Rastafari message sung-out in turn by Dub Judah, Tena Stelin, Ras Addis, Afrikan Simba, Christine Miller, Ras B, Jeru Banton, Ras Bernardo and Levi Roots. The Bristol duo established their sound with 'Transform I', injecting blazing horns, roaring bass and Brazilian harmonies into the heart of European sound system sessions. Fourteen years on from its initial release, the LP has grown to become a classic, a must-have musical voyage.
