Magick Brother & Mystic Sister
Tarot Pt. Ii (black)
Mysterious Barcelona band Magick Brother & Mystic Sister return with 'Tarot Pt. II,' completing this 2-part concept album, a kaleidoscope of 22 songs based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, a cross-cultural dream language. With their signature imaginative compositions featuring space-age keys and spiraling synths, intricate guitar mosaics and bass lines, pounding drums, exotic percussion, flute, cosmic and sitar sounds that carve textures for atmospheric female vocals, MBMS fuses a kind of dream-prog, Canterbury-like cosmic jazz, retro-futuristic krautrock and folk magical, creating their own universe and thus turning it into an essential musical experience. For this second part Eva Muntada (vocals, synthesizers, mellotron, organ, piano), Xavier Sandoval (bass and guitars), Alejandro Carmona (drums) and, the new member of the band, Tony Jagwar (sitar, guitars) have counted on the collaboration of Glenn Brigman (vocals), Didac Ruiz (percussions) and Maddy Gray (voiceover). 'Tarot Pt. II' is meant to be heard and experienced visually on vinyl: when the two discs are combined, the inner covers form an astrological mandala, a planetary wheel.
Tritonus
Between The Universes
Tritonus from Mannheim are sometimes compared to Emerson, Lake & Palmer, but they were definitely independent. At the keys was Peter Seiler, who later had a good run with many of his own releases and gigs and is still active today, mainly in the field of electronics. Here is the digital edition of their second LP (from 1976), taken from the mother tape, as well as the two tracks from their second single (from 1977) as bonus. Although there is already a Japanese CD of 'Between The Universes' available, it is sinfully expensive and difficult to obtain.
Plastic Crimewave Syndicate
Tales Of The Golden Skull
Plastic Crimewave Syndicate returns with one collective foot in overdriven space-biker scuzz rock, but the other bigfoot kicking upward into new galaxies of synth punk, no-prog, and freek funk. Yes, dare we say it, this PCWS LP, 'Tales From The Golden Skull,' GROOVES - but from the perspective of the Japan n' Kraut/Eurorock undergrounds, coated in some nasty Windy City grime. Aided by the Chicago Cosmonaut Couriers Crew, ala famed renaissance man Mac Blackout (synths/horns/electronics), Przemyslaw Krys Drazek (trumpet) of longtime zone-jammers Drazek Fuscaldo/Mako Sica, Will MacLean on Moog keytar (! - of local Silver vocoder-ed Apples lovin' treasures Protovulcan), plus the oldest-school synthlord Bil Vermette, who's been modulating since the '70s. 'Tales From The Golden Skull is a near-concept LP (aren't they always?) that looks back at fallen friends and collaborators, and then into the unwritten golden future (as PCW himself hit the golden 50). The sonic journey dips into dark textural valleys, and chugging riffs rising to thee fiery heavens, as the thundering-but-subtle rhythm section of Jose "Beast but Best" Bernal and Rob "Dead Feathers" Rodak know when to crash and when to burn (one). Sir PCW lays down his trademark big muff-blastage and echo-cries, to channel the despair and feral bark of the mighty Vega/Hammill/Iggy/Dickie P/Haino/Mojo-Risin/Mizutani, but also knows when to shut up for some layered instrumental Embryo/Harvester/Fausty trance rock and dabbed/dubbed out "not-quite-shoegazin" calmness in the eye of the Ur-storm. This might be the most expansive, detailed yet furious PCWS LP yet, recorded at Rec Room studios with Eric Block, who has done all from a band with Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley to recorded Rhys Chatham 100+-peeps guitar orchestras. So strap the headphones on and absorb the tales of this spaced ritual-rock opus. Co-release with Feeding Tube Records.
Blanchard, Jake
Fermentation
Jake is well known for his striking art/print work having designed many sleeves for the likes of Pelt, Mike Gangloff and Richard Dawson (his artwork for Dawson's 'The Ruby Cord' was awarded third place in the Art Vinyl album cover of the year award 2022). Along with Sophie Cooper he is one half of TOR, an umbrella term for a variety of projects including Tor Bookings, Tor Festival, Tor Press, Tor Beers and Tor FM that has made Todmorden synonymous with bringing diverse/creative and the best experimental music to the North of England. 'Fermentation' came together over the last couple of years, during this time Jake started struggling with a hip problem and chronic pain. This forced him to change his approach to recording music. He was no longer able to play for any significant length of time so the album was recorded in short bursts and gradually pieced together. Due to this Jake had to move away from the extended improvised jams of previous albums and take a more structured route. Jake plays an electric shahi baaja (similar to the Indian bulbul tarang and Japanese taishogoto, types of zither using typewriter like keys to change the pitch of some of the strings), this plays a central role on 'Fermentation' - buzzing and plucking with a wild abandon to create rolling ecstatic riffs of improvisational flow. The drones give way to a barrage of effects that find Jake manipulating the instrument in drifts of virtuosic shred, but the way he toggles back and forth between known and unknown tongues demonstrates a conceptual mastery that matches his technique. There are bits of this you might think were Michael Flower, Sandy Bull or even The Byrds if they decamped to India with a bag of narcotics before recording a night-long improv session. 'Fermentation's tangled fusion of East/West, traditional/post-modern seamlessly shifts between tumultuous intensity and blissed-out serenity perhaps reflecting Jake's struggles with pain and brief moments of reprieve. As a prism separates white light into many colours or many colours are joined into one white beam, so music often works. one chord in many colours, and many colours in one chord - Fermentation is a blistering document that taps into the ecstatic impulse, a monolithic free flowing abandon leading a tonal assault of heavy fiery ether or plunging into pure liquid haze. Co-release with Eiderdown Records.

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

Interstate Rockabilly (8x7" Box)
Is rockabilly perhaps the first white form of rock'n'roll? It clearly embraces the country component, along with the influence of rhythm & blues, resulting in an explosive mix that never fails to captivate. It's widely known that officially Elvis Presley fired the first shot, recording 'That's All Right,' and Carl Perkins, with 'Gone, Gone, Gone,' alongside Sonny Fisher, with 'Rockin' Daddy, 'became the genre's first composers. So its birth could be dated back to 1954, and it was in 1956 when it truly hit the big time on the charts, only to be forgotten in 1957, in favor of a much less savage way to rock. But rockabilly, with its natural rawness, remained there, in the underground, achieving some minor regional success and leaving thousands of wonderful examples of its existence that would later become prized collector's items. Interestingly, in 1956, Eisenhower's interstate highway plan was also born, a turning point in interstate road communications across the USA, which was a genuine revolution for mass population. Two big changes in the same year that we've taken advantage of, to pick up from the roadside of those rock'n'roll highways a few examples of great 45s, recorded by small record labels that seemed relegated to oblivion. One shot per state, eight record labels, eight different artists, condensing two raw diamonds into the coolest way ever - 8x7" 45 rpm wax records box set plus 4 pages 7" booklet! Ready for that Interstate Rockabilly journey?
Higher State
Internecine Free
At long last, the sixth full-length album from the Higher State has finally arrived! Sporting a fresh new quintet line-up, which unites band leader Marty Ratcliffe and longtime member Paul Messis with Huw Walters, formerly of garage greats the Mystreated, on bass, Gigs De Jong (The Colour Collection, MOOON) on drums, and Ali Norton (The Wynter Reign) on Farfisa, the group dive into twelve new songs meshing fuzz-laden '60s-style garage rock with jangly folk-punk, all delivered with an immediate and timeless quality. Presented in glorious mono, mastered by Tim Warren, and with liner notes from garage rock guru Freddy Fortune, this album comes with a lyrics printed insert along with a digital download code. So continues the journey of The Higher State! "Like a treasured compilation of mysterious '60s obscuritites, all killer, no filler" ~Mike Stax, Ugly Things Magazine.
Las Mosquitas
Las Mosquitas
Infectious rock&roll, surf, beat, girl group and ye-yé sounds by Las Mosquitas, the first female beat band from Argentina. Including their rare album from 1965 for the Music Hall label plus bonus tracks from singles and their impossible to find split EP with Los Gatos Salvajes. Las Mosquitas ("The Little Flies") consisted of Stella Maris Conde (Pupé) on vocals and guitar, María Cristina Medina (Nita) on bass, Ana María Millán (Nené) on vocals and guitar and Beatriz Cabrera (Dina) on drums. They performed their original compositions as well as Spanish sung covers of hits from the era. Producer Ricardo Romero of pioneering rock&roll Argentinean band Los Cinco Latinos took them under his wing and secured a deal with the Music Hall label. They toured nationally and internationally, sometimes supporting Los Cinco Latinos, other times as the main act. Not only that, but they conquered every city they performed in, they were received by fans, ambassadors, presidents and their daughters, all eager to see Las Mosquitas on stage. Tours through Panamá, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico, Chile, Uruguay, Brasil, Curazao and Argentina were completed with fantastic public response and TV appearances. The "Mosquitamania" was born and a string of singles and a full album on the Music Hall label followed. All of them are compiled here for the first time. "Their music was a mix of ye-yé and beat and they dressed how you would expect the Beatles to dress if they had been women." ~Gareth Wynne (Ugly Things). Includes insert with liner notes in Spanish/English and cool photos/memorabilia plus download card.

Chixdiggit!
Chixdiggit!
Originally released in 1996, Calgary, Alberta punk rock pioneers Chixdiggit!'s debut album has finally been reissued in its original format. Gratitudes
Degenerates Are Back
The Gratitudes are full-fledged punk rockers to the bone and draw most inspiration from still being alive. But they're equally influenced by anything with great melody and cunning craftmanship. David Bowie or The Ramones, Cheap Trick or The Clash, Ella Fitzgerald or Elvis Costello, Rush or Leatherface, Queen or The Undertones, it's all about the love for great songwriting. The band, who consists of members from The Good The Bad And The Zugly, Suzy Dahl, Cockroach Clan and Kosmik Boogie Tribe, has been around since 2022 and they've released two previous singles + the acclaimed 'Beans' EP. 'Degenerates Are Back' is their debut album.
Undertakers (norway)
Ivory Tower
'Ivory Tower' is a concept album that tells the story of a society's collapse, as a direct result of the wrongdoings and ignorance of pretentious and selfish leaders. The leaders, hiding in their 'Ivory Tower,' don't recognize the problems of the small, insignificant people, far down on the ground. They are carefree and safely hidden up in their tower, or are they really? 'Ivory Tower' draws clear parallels from 'The Masque Of The Red Death' by Edgar Allan Poe. No matter how wealthy or safely sealed behind castle walls, one cannot elude death. The music is as fast-paced and aggressive as it is energetic and melodic, bringing you along on sonic rollercoaster ride. The common thread is maintained throughout the album, but changes perspective between several of the songs as the narrator's voice also changes.
Israelvis
Church Of Israelvis Resurrected
Israelvis, a Norwegian punk band, arose from Angor Wat in 1988. Their legendary EP 'Church Of Israelvis' is finally out as an album (including the 5 songs left out of the original EP). For the first time on vinyl, nearly 30 years after the release. Limited to 250 copies on blue vinyl. With guests: Steve Ignorant (Crass), Katja B. Osvold (Life... But How To Live It?) and Lars Lien (Motorpsycho).

Water Damage
Repeater
There is something really special about music based on drones. Whether it's the vocals of Pandit Pran Nath, the ARP 2500 of Eliane Radigue, or the nearly-blown amps of Sunn O))), by changing the listeners's focus on details to one that favors flow, drones are uniquely capable of transporting our brains far far away. The debut LP, 'Repeater', by the loudly droning Austin septet Water Damage is a goddamn splendid example of how the process works. Using the motto, "Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation," Water Damage create glowing fields of post-rock lava that pretty much suck you right in and boil you alive.
Thoma, Ernst
Reels 1977-1986 (14cd)
Soave and Orbeatize present an impressive and stunning 14CD box set dedicated to the neglected and visionary Swiss electroacoustic composer Ernst Thoma. 'Reels 1977-1986' covers the first decade of Thoma's productions with its radically singular approach to experimental electronic music; highly rhythmic, ranging from poetic and minimal elegance to frenzy. In 80 tracks in total, some of the most engaging music of the late 20th century that we can call upon unfolds. Thoma began his formal musical studies at the Basel Academy of Music, working in the electronic music studio under composer David Johnson, and soon built and worked with oscillators, filters, and other electronic devices. Upon completion of these studies, he began the vast body of compositions that occupied much of his energies for the next few years of his life, also working within the UnknownmiX group, with Magda Vogel and Knut Remond, and collaborating with artists such as Peter Trachsel, Stephan Wittwer, and Gabi Delgado. A truly expansive and exploratory journey through an incredible array of minimal efforts that cover a considerable amount of ground while still managing to feel quite cohesive within their diversity, moving through proto-techno, flirting no-wave (in purely electronic form), improvisations, stellar allusions to math-rock and placing it deep into the most radical avant-garde zones. Undoubtedly one of the most important and ambitious archival releases of 2024. 14 CDs in wooden box with 24-page photo booklet.
Water Damage
2 Songs
More Water! More Damage! The second proper LP by this Texan juggernaut is even more biggerer than the first, a head-drowning pair of new 'reels' that makes you feel like you're swimming in a sun-drenched river of sound. Two drummers, two bassists and tons of vibrating strings are once again a recipe for massive rocking-drone fires!
Bestia Astrum
Fury 161
The debut album from Bestia Astrum (aka Abby Helasdottir/Gydja) is a grim exploration of 'Fury 161,' the prison planet from the movie 'Alien3.' An industrial ambient travelogue of the spaces in the planet's dark and rusty facility, beginning on a wind-swept shore and ending in the eternal repose of stony sleep.More than just an alternate soundtrack to a film, 'Fury 161' takes cues from the long and troubled production of 'Alien3,' incorporating themes from earlier concepts proposed during its development hell, including the treatment created by Vincent Ward, who imagined the movie's location as a wooden planet that was home to an order of space monks. Motifs of eremitic religiosity permeate the album, as well as themes of Yeatsian apocalypticism, abject anatomy, and the intersection between the sacred and the profane, betwixt the beautiful and the grotesque. Full colour matt-laminate digipak with gold spot colour, accompanied by a 16-page booklet with an essay by Abby Helasdottir.

Brown, James
The Complete James Brown Christmas (3lp)
'The Complete James Brown Christmas' collection is a three-LP set featuring music from 1966-1970. You absolutely don't need to be a holiday music lover to fall in love with the music spilling out over these James Brown records, as most of the tracks are original compositions that hold their own against many of the grooves that Brown was recording during this high-water mark of his career. With bonus tracks galore and fantastic liner notes by Alan Leeds (former James Brown publicist and tour manager), and mastered/cut by legendary mastering engineer Kevin Gray, this is a must-have-even if you have to give yourself a well-earned, early musical present this year!
T.h.s.
The Unreleased Album
T.H.S (The Horne Section) is a brilliant boogie band by Henry Horne, the writer of the song 'Kinky Girl' by The Creations. T.H.S also performed the memorable classic tune 'Lady Shine.' 'The Unreleased Album' is a compilation of previously unreleased boogie tracks, recorded during 1981-1984. For the first time issued as a CD on Boogie Times Records in 2010, first time on vinyl on Saph Records in 2016 (a sub-label of Boogie Times), and now reissued on vinyl in an extremely limited edition of 200 opies only.
Gage, Yvonne
Garden Of Eve/lover Of My Dreams/slow Down
Yvonne started her career as a singer at the age of 18 years. She performed the hit 'Garden Of Eve' in 1981 (Atlantic), produced by the great Donald Burnside. This outstanding classic tune stayed for several weeks on top of the hitlists, while 'Lover Of My Dreams' was a track initially meant for the 1983 album, but the track wasn't finished in time for the release of the album, it was only released in Europe during 1984. 'Slow Down' was recorded during 1981 and was never released before.
Ocie Iii
What's My Return On Love
'What's My Return On Love' is a killer boogie track from 1983, produced by the great Donald Burnside. The B side features an inedit Tony Massera Dub Version of that song. The original release from 1983 exists only as 7" and it's extremely rare and pricy.
Shock (usa/funk)
Lies/you Got The Love/work Your Body
Remembering the classic tune 'Let Your Body Do The Talkin',' Shock was an amazing funk band run by Marlon McClain and Roger Sause. The 'Lies' EP is an extended version of the mega rare and expensive 12" released in 2011 on Boogie Times Records. It features the songs 'Lies' as a splendid Tony Massera re-edit version, as well as the original version from 1984. 'Work Your Body' is featured as well and new added on this version is now the song 'You Got The Love,' which has never been released before on vinyl.
ELECTRONIC MUSIC/AMBIENT/D’N’B/TRIPHOP
Sea Of Wires
The Sea Of Wires (2cd)
The Sea Of Wires were a very early '80s electronic duo hailing from the industrial wastelands of Coventry... Followers of the German electronic scene of the time (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Popol Vuh, Cluster etc), Chris Jones and Tony Murphy used elements of Kosmische Musik in their compositions, with a variety of warm synths, analogue effects, and layered experimentation. This double-CD collects cassettes which appeared on their own Sea Of Wires label: 'Individually Screened' (1980, then 1981 on the famous Flowmotion label); Chris Jones' 'Diversions' (1981, featuring Murphy on synth); and 'Beyond The Edge Of Tomorrow' (1982), representing the absolute peak of their sound. These tracks appeared as a double LP on the illustrious Vinyl-on-Demand label back in 2014 as part of the massive 12LP boxset '80's Minimal Synth. Wave Vol. 2,' but are presented here on CD for the first time ever. FFO early Human League, Vice Versa, We Be Echo, Tangerine Dream. Double CD in a matt-finish gatefold ecopak.

Lind
De Leit
Lind is a genre-defying attempt to play music from home. Some of it is passed down through tradition, some is self-composed, and it ranges from heart-wrenching melancholy to village anarchy. The band calls the result "symphonic trad 'n' roll." To achieve this, jazz-inclined brass player Karl Helbig, black-metal-inspired cellist Benni "Cellini" Gerlach, and traditionalist Waldzither player Tim "Doc Fritz" Liebert had to step far outside their musical comfort zones. The result is perhaps one of the most exotic creations in the newly blossoming German folk landscape, though the term "folk" is used here in a very broad sense. With cello, saxophone/tuba, Waldzither/harmonica, and charismatic vocals, they build a completely unique and fascinating soundscape on the foundation of traditional music. This soundscape is characterized by technical sophistication, wild playfulness, and a touch of melancholy. Lind presents a mix of self-composed pieces (for which they received the prestigious "Hoyschrecke" singer-songwriter award in 2023), classical adaptations, and respectful arrangements of traditional pieces from Thuringia and Saxony. These often include "Rundas" from the Vogtland region, which spread exuberant joy, or 240-year-old dance pieces (from the Seibis Collection). The combination of this material with the unusual blend of instruments and the complex structure of the compositions results in a very modern sound that never feels academic and possesses a timeless quality. Despite all their virtuosity, the music remains highly entertaining and captivating.
Aylin's Soulgarden
Bu Bir Demdir
The four musicians of Aylin's Soulgarden innovatively blend Alevi sounds from Anatolia with contemporary elements of pop, jazz, and electro. Aylin's Soulgarden sets the lyrics of traditional Alevi poets like Muhyiddin Abdal and Pir Sultan to music, embedding these profound verses in a vibrant, captivating soundscape of indie-psychedelic-pop with a touch of soul.
Salamakannel
Iv
Salamakannel (Lightning Kantele) is back! On 'IV,' the band's personal sound is still born from the ringing of various stringed instruments. Salamakannel's music combines traditional Finnish pelimanni (folk musician) music, especially kantele music from Perho River Valley, American string band music and various rock influences. An essential part of the band's repertoire is the band members' own personal compositions. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Salamakannel's best-known lineup made three albums, which are still considered to be the front-line releases of the emerging Finnish contemporary folk music. Salamakannel's album 'IV' continues from where the band left off 30 years ago. The album's music contains a variety of moods, from heartbreaking lyrical melodies to ancient imitations of the church bell tunes, Chicago waltz, polska or oompah, Finnish humppa.
