Oda
Oda
Of the plethora of touted "private press hard rock monsters" out there, very few live up to the swaggering riff-fury of west coast blasters Oda. Commonly known as the 'Black Album,' the first clobbering platter by the quartet was released on their own tiny Loud Phonograph Records imprint and now commands large sums - but is actually worth the heavy hype. The band naturally centered around Randy Oda, a multi-talented ax shredder and keyboardist, and the lineup was filled out by his brother Kevin on drum assault, Art Pantoja on lead bellows and rhythm guitar, and galloping bassist Kyle Schneider. The Oda brothers were born in Alameda County, California, attending Kennedy High School in Richmond, and started the band while still teenagers at the beginning of the '70s. Oda was influenced by hard UK rockers like Deep Purple, Zep, Free, and the Who, and they gigged all over the Bay Area, with Randy garnering comparisons to Jeff Beck's molten six-string mastery. Their 1971 self-titled LP fully displays their blistering talents, but despite some local airplay on KSAN radio, the band packed it in by '73. This would not be the end of the Oda story, as Randy joined CCR's Tom Fogerty in the outfit Ruby afterwards, laying down his licks on two LPs that flirted with the mainstream, while staying true to his highly electric guitar muse. In 1983, Oda actually reformed for one more LP on Loud Phonograph, entitled 'Power Of Love.' The comeback album delves a little deeper into radio friendly power pop, which makes sense, as in '82 Oda co-wrote 'Think I'm In Love' with Eddie Money (which, let's face it, is Money's best song by like a mile). Randy would also collaborate with Fogerty as a duo, and the posthumous 'Sidekicks' album (released after Fogerty passed) listed the clearly-integral Randy Oda as "arranger, composer, guitar (acoustic), guitar (electric), keyboards, primary artist, and producer." In the 2000s, Randy would start another band with his brother called Opo which means "to lay a foundation" in Hawaiian, and Oda would reform to play a benefit in 2015 along with other obscure and heady/heavy Bay Area rockers like Savage Resurrection and Country Weather (some live footage of the event shows the band still rocking hard). At last, Riding Easy is legitimately reissuing Oda's first smoking, gargantuan LP with bonus tracks, so crank this one up in your '70s Camaro with the windows open, and some dirt weed joints a-blazin'.
Homer
Grown In U.s.a.
/With their roots traced in two legendary '60s garage bands, The Outcasts and The Stoics, Homer were without doubt one the best psychedelic/hard-rock outfits coming out from Texas. 'Grown In U.S.A.' was their only album, released as a private pressing in 1970. Rural psychedelic rock with early prog hints fueled by stunning lead/dual guitar, melodic vocals and occasional mellotron. Highly sought after Texas psych album. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + obi. Newly sourced and remastered sound. Includes insert with liner notes and photos. "A Texas private press classic that spans several early '70s genres but still manages to sound like a coherent, personal work." ~Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives).
Hunger
Strictly From Hunger
Reissue of US psych Holy Grail from 1969! Killer Doorsy organ and fuzzed-out guitars, including all-time psychedelic classics like 'Colors,' 'Workshop' and 'Mind Machine.' Transplanted from Portland to the Sunset Strip, Hunger played at all the hip places (Whisky a Go Go, Cheetah, Kaleidoscope...), rubbing shoulders with bands like Hour Glass (pre-Allman Brothers), the Doors or Steppenwolf. In 1969 they released 'Strictly From Hunger' for the small Public label. Highly sought after, Guerssen is proud to present a straight reissue of such collectable album. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + obi. Remastered sound. Includes insert with liner notes by Clark Faville and rare photos.
Il Segno Del Comando
(pd) Al Passato, Al Presente, Al Futuro
Recorded live in 2016. First time on vinyl. Artwork by Danilo Capua. Picture disc limited to 200 copies.
Custard Flux
Einsteinium Delirium (red)
Limited to 100 copies on blue/red mixed vinyl. Only few available, so be fast! This album is a little different than their first four albums. It's no holds barred electric! The songs blend into each other to create one nuclear based relativity, with a conceptual narrative of our historical atomic madness in variable time signatures, rests and pieces. On top of that, their whole rhythm section is a Detroit gang. Let's rock! Einsteinium is a highly unstable element that was discovered in the debris after the first hydrogen bomb explosion. Using it in the title eventually compelled Curvey from Custard Flux to research and write about characters and events relating to atomic bombs, a thoroughly depressing subject. The infamous key scientist involved in developing the first atom bomb, had deep spiritual interests and in some interviews had made references to the Bhagavad Gita, which he was able to use for more positive, psychedelic inspiration.
Borracho
(white/red/orange) Blurring The Lines Of Reality
Second pressing of 300 copies on white/red/orange marbled vinyl. Creating a sonic tapestry that transcend boundaries, Borracho combines elements of classic, doom, and progressive rock to form a signature sound that has resonated with fans since their formation over fifteen years ago. Drawing on influences spanning decades, they combine soaring musicality with subterranean propulsion, encompassing the hard-driven strut of bands like Black Sabbath and Mountain, stoner jams of Clutch and Fu Manchu, and the unmistakable energetic sensibilities of Mastodon and High on Fire.
Sun And Sail Club
Shipwrecked (black)
After a nine year hiatus Sun And Sail Club are back and they've come back swinging! This album is more aggressive than the previous album, as if that was even possible. Same line-up as before featuring Scott Reeder (Fu Manchu/Smile) on drums, Scott Reeder (Kyuss/The Obsessed/Fireball Ministry) on bass, Bob Balch (Fu Manchu/Slower/Big Scenic Nowhere/Yawning Balch) on guitar and Tony Adolescent (The Adolescents) on vocals. The album starts with a mellow jazz guitar piece and then proceeds to rip your face off until the end of the album, which closes with another solo jazz guitar piece. 'Shipwrecked' is their strongest album yet. Fully realized and to the point. Fast and dissonant.
Sun And Sail Club
Mannequin (black)
Reissue of the Sun And Sail Club debut album in brand new coloured vinyls and new artwork. Sun And Sail Club's debut album 'Mannequin' embarks on territory that is both new and exciting. Not surprisingly, 'Mannequin' spearheads the obvious future and progression of hard rock fury, bringing to the table the true professionalism and mastery, and dynamic musicianship that has been on full display from Fu Manchu, Kyuss and The Obsessed in years past, but also adds a completely new level of precision, technicality and accuracy to make an album that is almost completely flawless from start to finish. New artwork made by Mirkow Gastow.
Sun And Sail Club
The Great White Dope (black)
Reissue of Sun And Sail Club's sophomore album. The name might be the Sun and Sail club, but you'll find no yacht rock here. Instead of Michael McDonald, we have Bad Brains. Kenny Loggins? Hall and Oates? More like Matt Pike and Lemmy Fucking Kilmister. 'The Great White Dope' is featuring members of Kyuss, Fu Manchu, and the Adolescents, and contains 10 riff-filled tracks of high energy, bullshit-free punk and sleaze. The song writing on 'The Great White Dope' steers away from the experimental direction of their previous release, and it's laser focused on one thing: unapologetically rocking your face off. The vocoder is gone and they've recruited singer Tony Adolescent, who delivers balls to the wall vocals with no added effects or frills. The production, like the music itself, is loud, heavy, and beautifully simple. Originally released in 2015.
GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL
Dangereens
Chic
Montréal's Dangereens are back with a bang! Here comes their second album, thirteen originals full of the glam rock'n'roll Rockpalast scorchers. Wonderful '60s harmonies, '70s schmaltz rock with pounding '50's Berry kicks and relentless piano hammering. Speed up the Stones or set Slade under adrenaline fire, let Paul Collins Beat do the rock and you have a good time with the Dangereens.
Real Rejects
Not Allowed (10")
Debut record by Canada's uncrowned budget rock ricochet TJ Cabot! His newest endeavour is a full band, The Real Rejects! 45rpm 10" with eight contenders, nine songs total, math punk! Pressed on a yet uncounted number of various vinyl colors. The trinity is TJ Cabot is outstanding fast punk rock shout outs and timbre, the killer Pagans and Stooges song book and the Sam The Sham organ going to insanity! This is the unchallenged flash bang party of 2024!
Shakane
Big Step 1970-1974 (2lp)
This is the first-ever collection of recordings by Bristol, UK's highly underrated Shakane. Double album, 23 tracks and 3 are previously unreleased, clocking in at 75 minutes. It boggles the mind that no one has bothered to gather all these amazing tracks in one place. Shakane originally released two now-pricey LP's. One, only released in Italy, and another only available in Sweden. In addition to their two long-players, they put out several singles on several labels. It's no wonder their legacy has been sorely under-served - until now. In modern times they are mostly known for their songs 'Love Machine' and 'Gang Man,' but there is so much more to explore. This has singles, deep album cuts and the aforementioned unreleased tunes. This 2LP encompasses nearly their entire discography. We left off a few of their acoustic numbers in favor of three superb previously unreleased tacks: 'Lazy River,' 'Save Me' and 'Lola.' Shakane was never tied down to one particular genre. Bubblegum, power pop, glam, psych, harmony-based folk, etc. They did it all. Music of this quality never stays buried forever. Informative liners by Steve Krakow complete the package. 500 copies on black vinyl.

Witchery And Devilry, Vol. Ii (2nd Spell)
A whirling, twirling, panorama of satanic sleaze! The Return... The 2nd Coming... the long-awaited next dose is finally unleashed and ready to melt minds and devour souls. During the height of the turned-on 1960s and '70s occult explosion even the under the counter adult men's magazines got in on the act and began a surreal exploration of the haunting netherworld of Witchcraft and Satanism. This monumental art book reveals a world of diabolical smut that was so compelling and obscure that many people today would actually question whether or not the magazines were real or just an elaborate and detailed modern photo editing invention. A few salacious titles and images on the internet sparked imaginations, and strongly inspired bands in the doom/black/heavy metal genre, eventually these alluring images found their way to record covers and T-shirts, but mostly remaining shadowy, mysterious, and elusive. Magazines so impossible to hunt down that their very existence seemed an urban myth. Well, they are real, and they are spectacular! These magazines are in fact, out there in the world. They are collecting dust in attics, basements, and garages. Hidden away from sight. Unsavory treasures deemed too filthy and then forgotten by their lustful owners. This massive 288 pages deluxe hardcover book is a glimpse into a vast and shocking world that remains virtually unknown and unexplored. These artifacts come from a bygone era promoting sexual revolution and freedom with overt and unholy occult themes. If you have any issues with hardcore witchcraft and Satanism, body hair or nudity, don't pick this book up and quickly get it out of your sight, and forget everything we've mentioned. Just remember life's too short to take everything so seriously. Flesh is beautiful! It's time to once again descend into the infernal witches' cauldron and deep down into the hellish pit for a real Black Mass. Includes a thorough review and collector's guide of each rare publication as well as illuminating essays on the subject. Entirely new visions of vintage devilish smut to shatter your senses and ignite pagan lust worldwide. Hardcover, 288 pages, limited edition of 1000 copies.

Sophisticated and savage, it's exotica for the modern age!
Denny, Martin
Forbidden Island
There's a reason why Martin Denny remains a cultural touchstone - his records are as earthly as they are from outer space. 'Forbidden Island' was Denny's third record, recorded after a nine-month residency in Hawaii. This era finds Denny just on the cusp of being a household name, a period where his records would shortly become certified Gold. 'Forbidden Island' is a solidification of Denny being the King of the Exotica sound, where his recordings could illuminate just enough darkness across the tiki bar to let a few of us slowly dance the night away. The reissue also include the original iconic album artwork featuring model/actor Sandy Warner (which was often the gateway into these albums before we ever heard the music in these grooves).
Denny, Martin
The Enchanted Sea
Long before Denny started heading into outer space with his Moog work, he was keeping us just floating slightly above the ground with the sounds of the earth-and 'The Enchanted Sea' is one of his most grounded and beautiful works. Unlike many of his other exotica records (which are filled with the sound of the jungle, its wildlife, and the smell of the tiki bar smoke) this one has the feeling of a tumbler full of ice, walking barefoot on a sandy beach in the twilight, while breathing in the salt air. There are early glimpses here of where he was starting to head with psychedelic-treated pianos, ethereal female vocals, and abstract orchestration beginning to find their way into the listener's ears. It's an album that seems less comical than some of his earlier work, with an allure more from the heart, without the heartbreak (even though the occasional tinge of wistfulness surrounds it). Out of print since the 1960s. Comes on green vinyl.
Denny, Martin
Exotic Percussion
Now joining Jackpot Record's ever-expanding collection of Martin Denny reissues is the hypnotic "visual sound" of 'Exotic Percussion,' which has not been on vinyl since its original release in 1961. His production on 'Exotic Percussion' is ambitious, adventurous, and fascinatingly futuristic, especially when a tumbler with ice was still the preferred way to let loose. Xylophones and chimes swim from ear to ear; traditional jazz instrumentation collides with such musical oddities as boo bas, shamisens, Manga harp, and Burmese gongs. As always, the choice of compositions on a Martin Denny record is a bizarre yet exciting spin around the globe, but this one is even weirder than usual. From the faster-than-light of 'Cumana' to the luscious groove of 'Moonlight On The Ganges' (made famous by Frank Sinatra and a track that is still being played on a loop at Disneyland's Jungle Cruise attraction), it's a whiplash of a ride. But the stand-out on the record is the combo of 'Misirlou' (which would be made famous a few years later by Dick Dale and even decades later with its appearance in 'Pulp Fiction'). So join the conga line and head out into the street as Martin Denny once again creates a world we yearn to return to and an album we can always revisit. Comes on sea glass color vinyl.
