Yura Yura Teikoku
Sweet Spot
Last copies! Finally available outside Japan, Sweet Spot captures pop-psych legends Yura Yura Teikoku at the height of their powers. Former PSF and Captain Trip recording artists, Yura Yura Teikoku have spent the last 15 years honing their experimental yet infectious, ecstatic pop-psych sound. Their seventh album and first for Sony Japan, Sweet Spot, was recorded at Soichiro Nakamura's (ex-White Heaven) Peace studios with You Ishihara (also ex-White Heaven) producing. Yura Yura Teikoku bass player Chiyo Kamekawa also plays in The Stars (PSF, Pedal Records) with Ishihara. Michio Kurihara of Ghost (Drag City) and Damon & Naomi plays second guitar on a number of Yura Yura Teikoku tracks as well. "Cutting classic-sounding Quicksilver Messenger Service moves with acid rock in the vein of Les Rallizes Dénudés, Org-styled idiot-avant, baroque '60s sunshine pop ala Ballroom/Millennium and some tough, guitar-driven power pop in the post-Velvets mode of Alex Chilton circa Radio City. Yura Yura Teikoku succeeds in cramming a hell of a lot of classic/weird influences into a singularly potent form." ~D. Keenan, Wire.
