Volksweerbaarheid/osewoudt
Gedeelde Smart
Knives have been sharpened. Bombs have been planted. Maybe brass knuckles and absinthe aren't such a smart combination. Or are they? Dutch acts Volksweerbaarheid (Nijmegen) and Osewoudt (Rotterdam) collaborate on this surprising 12" split LP after both had a (recording) hiatus of almost 10 years. Seeing the history of Dutch neofolk it's only logical that both would team up some time. But this is not an easy rehashing of the past, as both bands shape their sound, although still rooted in neo-folk, even darker with hints of post-punk, post-rock and a cinematic mood. The noir feel comes across as the lyrics deal with tragic happenings, heroism, misunderstandings, treason, chaos. No right or wrong. The only thing that's clear is the unclearness. A hand reaching out to willingly pull you from the light into the attractive dark. Degenerating into a musically astray and lyrically intriguing world. SIDE 1: 1. Volksweerbaarheid - Allemansjacht 2.
