Beneath Tones Floor
'Beneath Tones Floor' is the final recording of legendary bassist Sirone (Norris Jones), a fitting tribute to his storied career. Known for his work with The Revolutionary Ensemble and jazz icons like Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, and Cecil Taylor, Sirone's deeply resonant bass takes center stage in this live 2008 performance from the Brecht Forum in NYC.Joined by reed player Oluyemi Thomas and drummer Michael Wimberly, the trio delivers 10 spontaneously generated pieces simmering with fierce intent. The interplay between Sirone's almost subterranean bass and Thomas' expressive bass clarinet creates a captivating tension throughout. Highlights include 'Mystic Way,' showcasing their dynamic dialogue, and 'Heavenly Wisdom,' where Sirone's arco bass contrasts beautifully with Thomas' spiritual bass clarinet.
