Semones, Mei

Tsukino

Mei Semones blends jazz, bossa nova, and math-y indie rock into a unique and cathartic soundscape that reflects her artistic identity. The 23-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and guitarist draws on her love for diverse genres to craft music that feels natural and true to her. Her debut EP, 'Tsukino,' originally self-released, is now being physically released by Bayonet Records on CD, tape, and as the B-side to her landmark EP, 'Kebutomushi,' on vinyl. Known for intricate guitar work, asymmetrical time signatures, and heartfelt lyrics in English and Japanese, Mei's music is enriched by string players Noah Leong (viola) and Claudius Agrippa (violin). Trained in jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music, she has collaborated with John Roseboro and toured with Raavi. Her genre-defying compositions, characterized by sweeping strings and tender lyrics, explore themes of infatuation, devotion, and vulnerability, creating a captivating, multidimensional listening experience.
