Riff, Nick

Escape Velocity

'Escape Velocity' is the fifth and final installment of the Riffdisc series that began in 2005. As each release in the series focuses on a different aspect and approach of Nick's music. 'Escape Velocity' is a hybrid recording. Nicks' vocals and main guitar, with George Shiner on drums, were recorded live at Magnetic North Studio in Cleveland, Ohio by Chris Keffer. Chris produced Nick's releases for Delerium in the '90s and has worked on pieces with the Black Keys and Cheap Trick. At Oblivion Studio Nick recorded bass guitar, keyboards and synthesizers, superimposing the tracks into the live takes. A final session at Magnetic North added a texture vocal track, saxophone by Norman Tischler, and percussion by Angel Wolff. With a tip of the pipe to 'Sgt. Pepper', Crazy Horse, Flaming Lips, Moody Blues, and early Pink Floyd, the psych-prog songwriting of 'Escape Velocity' results in a magical blend that could propel the listener into another reality.
