New York City
I'm Doing Fine Now
Exact repro vinyl reissue of a splendid East Coast soul album, originally recorded in both NYC and Philadelphia and released by Chelsea in 1973. (There's a European pressing on Polydor.) The title track was a US hit, but this album's full of great songs. Some of the tracks (among which the aforementioned hit single) were produced by Philly-mastermind Thom Bell, who also worked with f.i. The Delfonics, Spinners and Stylistics. Many of the songs feature cool sitar sounds. Relevant for fans of vocal soul groups à la Chi-Lites, Delfonics, Choice Four, Stylistics, etc. The band's line-up included John Brown, formerly with The Five Satins and the brother of the Sweet Inspirations' Estelle Brown.
