Neon Leon
1979-84 Singles Archival Lp
Neon Leon Matthews was among the people who paved the way for NYC's early punk scene. He hung out (or was friends) with Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, Johnny Thunders, David Peel and The New York Dolls, and was said to be the last witness to see Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen together at the Chelsea Hotel. As a proto punk musician he was recording acetates as far back as the mid 1970s with the original members of Pure Hell around Philadelphia, and he also worked with Mick Jagger and Blondie drummer Clem Burke. This archival LP collects all of Neon Leon's 7-inch releases from the years 1979-'84, featuring many recordings that originally only appeared on obscure European releases, thus cementing the Neon Leon legend in the sacred halls of the US punk pantheon.
