Ibex Band
Stereo Instrumental Music (2lp)
The Ibex Band are pioneers of Ethiopian Music. Ethiopian music of the 1970s wasn't just a golden age - it was a revolution, and at its core was The Ibex Band (later The Roha Band). Backing legends like Aster Aweke and Mahmoud Ahmed, they modernized Ethiopian rhythms with Western influences, setting new standards with over 250 albums and 2,500 songs. Their 1976 album 'Stereo Instrumental Music,' recorded at Addis Ababa's Ras Hotel Ballroom, is a rare gem, made possible by Ethiopia's first four-track recorder. Despite political turmoil, Ibex continued to tour and innovate, leaving a timeless legacy. This rediscovered album is a testament to their lasting impact on Ethiopian music.
