Pauline Hogstrand's music - and 'Ahkká', in particular - is deeply inspired by both inner and outer influences, by fictitious conversations and the queen mountain of Lappland (Ahkká). The music appearing on the album simulates the dualities of ascent and descent, tension and release, inhale and exhale. Through implementing extended structures for analog and digital synthesis and processed acoustic instrumentations - strings, recorder, pipes and field recordings - Hogstrand expertly navigates these dual motions across two side-long pieces.
