Hastings Of Malawi
Vibrant Stapler Obscures Characteristic Growth
A classic experimental work from 1981 appears on CD for the first time. Originally 1.000 LP's were pressed on orange-red vinyl, but 800 of them were destroyed, making the record even more rare. Hastings Of Malawi comprised Heman Pathak, David Hodes and John Grieve, who had all been involved in the recording of the first Nurse With Wound album. They recorded the 'Vibrant Stapler...' album in one night in 1981, with drums, clarinet, synthesiser, piano and things that they found lying around the studio. However, there was no real musical plan. The recordings were played down the phone to randomly dialled numbers and the reactions got added to the material. No need to say this is a welcome CD-reissue of a noteworthy album.
