Groundhogs
Live 1972: Wmc Studios, Memphis
Groundhogs, live from Ardent Recording Studio, Memphis, TN June 8th 1972. Already stars in England, the Groundhogs embarked on their first US tour in June 1972. Just ahead of the first date, they performed this set for broadcast on WMC-FM radio at the legendary Ardent Recording Studio, Memphis, TN on June 8th. It finds them on exciting form, tearing through a cross-section of their best-loved material. Alas, their promotional and recording plans went awry later in the tour when Tony McPhee broke his wrist, leading to a radical overhaul of their musical approach and the disintegration of the existing line-up. As a result, this set is something of an epitaph to one of Britain's most exciting ever power trios. It's presented here with background notes and images.
