Galley Beggar
Silence & Tears
Here's the third album from Kent-based sextet Galley Beggar, who took their name from a mischievous spirit in English folklore. The eight tracks on this album span traditional folk, Gothic balladry and peculiarly British acid rock. The mood is alternately fragile and robust, with sweet vocal harmonies, lyrical guitar playing and added texture from the violin of Celine Marshall. For fans of the British underground folk scene of the late '60s-early '70s, including Fairport Convention, Trees, Mellow Candle, Dando Shaft, etc. In an era when bands such as Trembling Bells, Circulus and Wolf People have brought folk-rock to the fore again, the hypnotic interplay and inspired jamming on 'Silence & Tears' is sure to find an enthusiastic audience.
