Sing Jimmy Campbell
Jimmy Campbell should be a name recognized alongside the greatest poets and songwriters to ever emerge from England. The real son of Anastasia. Campbell was spun out of the same mystical essence that created Lennon and McCartney and his song writing is on par with the Liverpool legends. Jimmy was far too humble for such a comparison and would have told me to knock it off! (Jimmy was a huge Lennon fan). Like most perfectionists, he was never happy with any of his finished recordings and would always comment that he could have got it better. Gone now but never forgotten, Jimmy's magic continues to shine around the globe as more and more musicians pick up on his often-vulnerable confessions. His cannon has been praised by diverse musicians and bands from Joey Ramone to The Black Keys. Jimmy's work is just as diverse, producing everything from gorgeous gleaming Beatlesque power pop rockers to introspective tender acoustic jewels that will make the hair on your arms tingle. Too many times Jimmy's name will be followed by empty praises of "what could have been," or "tremendous commercial potential." Jimmy was rich with close friends and fellow Merseyside musicians who praised his abilities from the very beginning until the end. Jimmy's songs could paint an often-melancholy picture, but Jimmy was never that man. Jimmy was a craftsman, and his acoustic guitar was his paintbrush and the vinyl his canvas. A true modern-day Michelangelo. This collection would make Jimmy break a smile because each artist has chosen a track composed by Jimmy that means so much to them and brings them joy. Each artist has put their heart into the music, and they had fun (remember when music was fun?). There is no doubt that some younger musicians will find this collection and become inspired by the songs with no idea who Jimmy Campbell is. I say "is," as through the spirit of recorded music he still lives and can never really die. These powerful renditions will only inspire others to investigate the original recordings and be taken on a magical journey that starts in Kirkby and ends in Mersey. Featuring Joe Kane, Coke Belda, The Elms Estate, Jim Camacho, Rhys Marsh, John Ford, Edward Rogers, Mark Johnston, DC Cardwell, John Howard, Cherry Parke, Rome56, Esteban Cisneros and Kevin Robertson.
