Chiva Rumbera, led by saxophonist/clarinetist Romain Meunier, unites nine musicians from the Tours scene around the infectious rhythms of cumbia, the emblematic music of Colombia's Caribbean coast. Blending original compositions with reimagined classics, the group delivers a festive, dance-driven experience - indoors or out! Rooted in 16th-century indigenous festivals and shaped by African, indigenous, and later European influences, cumbia evolved with instruments like the accordion and, from the 1930s, brass sections inspired by jazz big bands. Chiva Rumbera embraces this bold, orchestral form to celebrate Colombia's musical heritage, playing iconic tunes that are now considered unofficial national anthems.
