The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound with deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, as exemplified by their signature song and transatlantic No. 1 hit single, 'House of the Rising Sun'. 'Live At The Club A Go-Go' was recorded during a December 1963 appearance at a nightspot in Newcastle, several months before they cut their debut single.
