2° Étage is a trio featuring drummer Gerry Hemingway, trumpeter Jean Luc Cappozzo, and pianist Christine Wodrascka. Their 2012 live recording showcases unpredictable interplay across eight tracks. Wodrascka provides repeated motifs, grounding the music, while Hemingway focuses on timbre over rhythm, and Cappozzo adds a range of sounds from drones to near-bop. The album balances abstract improvisation with humor, especially in the playful final track, 'Tanz Ende,' where squeaky toy-like trumpet sounds meet a spontaneous circus march, offering wit and creativity that stand out in this dynamic set.
